Kate’s Uncomfortable Truths (That Might Just Change Your Life)
It’s time to get real about what’s happening in our bodies and what we can do about it.
Let’s face it: sometimes the truth stings. But when it comes to our health and wellbeing as we age, sweeping things under the rug only delays the action we know we need to take. So I’m calling out a few uncomfortable truths. Not to scare you. Not to shame you. But to empower you to make your future stronger, brighter and more active... starting today. 💪
💥 Uncomfortable Truth #1:
We lose strength from the age of 30
Yes, thirty. And unless we do something about it, that loss only speeds up, especially during peri to post menopause. That’s because hormonal changes impact muscle mass, bone density and metabolism, making it harder to maintain strength and function. But here’s the good news: resistance training is one of the most powerful tools we have to slow (or even reverse) this decline.
This isn’t about chasing biceps. It’s about being able to carry your groceries, lift your grandkids, climb stairs without puffing, getting up out of your chair at 90 unaided and staying independent for years to come.
⏳ Uncomfortable Truth #2:
Middle age starts at 40, not 50
We often think of 50 as the tipping point, but science says middle age begins at 40. That means the choices you make in your 30s and 40s set the tone for how you feel and move in your 50s, 60s and beyond. Think of this as your investment decade. And the earlier you start, the more returns you’ll see, especially when it comes to strength, energy and quality of life.
Top tip: It’s also never too early or too late to start. So even if you’re in your 50s or beyond, you can still build strength, boost vitality and set yourself up for a healthier, more active future.
🚶♀️ Uncomfortable Truth #3:
Walking isn’t enough
Walking is amazing for your heart, mind and general movement, but it’s not a complete exercise plan, especially for women in peri to post menopause. You also need strength training, balance work, and mobility exercises to keep your muscles, joints and bones happy.
If walking is your baseline, awesome - I love my walks too but now let’s build on that.
🌀 Uncomfortable Truth #4:
Being busy isn’t a reason not to exercise, it’s the reason to exercise
We’re all busy. That’s life. But the more life demands of you, the more essential movement becomes. Why? Because exercise boosts your energy, sharpens your focus, stabilises your mood and supports your resilience. You can’t pour from an empty cup and working out fills yours back up.
Instead of thinking "I don’t have time to work out," try: 👉 "I move my body so I can do everything else."
It's time to flip the script!
These might be some home truths, but they’re shared with love, and with your future self in mind. Because once we know what’s really going on, we can do something about it. And the best part? It’s never too late to start.
