Meet Storm: Our New Physio on DediKate 💪
We’re so excited to welcome Storm Baynes-Ryan to the DediKate team!
Storm joins us as our resident physiotherapist, bringing a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for helping women move well, stay strong, and recover confidently. Her new Prehab and Rehab sessions are designed to bridge the gap between injury and strength, giving you the tools to move safely, rebuild stability, and prevent those niggles from turning into setbacks.
Let’s get to know Storm a little better!
How did you become a physiotherapist?
“I actually remember the exact spot I was in when I decided,” laughs Storm. “I was ten years old, driving with Mum near Poihipi Road, and she suggested I could be a physiotherapist. I didn’t even know what that was, but as soon as she explained, I was sold.”
That childhood moment led to a lifetime passion. Storm studied at AUT, graduating with her Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy), later completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2004. Along the way, she worked with sports teams, private practice clients, and a wide range of rehabilitation cases, all while raising four kids and running a hill-country farm in Te Karaka with her husband.
Her career hasn’t always been straightforward. After battling glandular fever for several years early on, Storm learned firsthand the importance of listening to her body, a lesson that now shapes how she works with clients. “I realised that health is holistic, all of us is in the same container. I don’t just treat an injury; I look at the whole person.”
What areas of physiotherapy are you most passionate about?
“I love helping people who are ready to make change, especially those dealing with muscle, joint, or ligament injuries. There’s nothing better than seeing someone regain strength and do things they couldn’t before.”
Storm has a special place in her heart for rural communities, where access to care can be tricky. “Online sessions are game-changers for people who can’t always get to a clinic. I also love helping people coming back from surgery, that moment when they realise they’re stronger than ever is pure magic.”
She’s known as That Farming Physio, a rural-based, evidence-driven practitioner who blends advanced manual therapy, neurovisceral assessment, and practical self-management strategies to treat “the whole human.
What excited you most about joining DediKate?
“I’m thrilled to bring physio-led rehab to women who might otherwise find it hard to access this knowledge and care. My hope is that these sessions make people feel more capable and confident in progressing their strength, and ultimately, enjoy life more.”
How will your sessions support women on their fitness journey?
“These programmes are a bridge between finishing physio and feeling fully confident again,” Storm explains. “They’re functional, practical, and perfect for anyone with a grumbling injury, or who wants to prevent one.
Even if you’re not injured, they’re a great way to check how your body’s moving. A bit of discomfort isn’t a failure, it’s information. It tells us what needs attention so we can build from there.”
What can members expect from your Prehab & Rehab videos?
Each session has been carefully crafted to improve mobility, coordination, and strength while reducing protective movement patterns that often develop after injury.
You’ll find:
→ Short, focused sessions — some 10 minutes, some 20 minutes. → Clear guidance on whether it’s suitable for all levels or more advanced strength work. → Cues to help you move precisely and safely.
“Quality matters more than quantity,” says Storm. “It’s better to move with precision and control than to rush and do junk reps.”
Storm recommends repeating the sessions around three times a week for best results and adjusting or scaling back if you experience more than mild discomfort.
What’s your favourite way to move?
“I love lifting heavy weights and doing rehab-style exercises that show me where I need to improve. But I also love getting outside, walking in the bush or anywhere in nature.”
Your top tip for staying injury-free?
“It’s all about looking after the whole human. Get enough sleep, eat enough protein, stay hydrated, move for the joy of it, and lift heavy (for you) weights in different ways. You can’t prevent every injury, but being strong through range makes life so much more fun.”
What do you love doing outside of physio?
“I love being out on the farm with my dogs and animals, especially when I can do it with my husband and kids. I also love hunting, heading to the bush or the beach, and spending time with my family and adventure besties. If you want to hang out with me, plan something active and outdoors!”
