Overcoming Mum Guilt and Prioritising Exercise: Kate’s Personal Journey 🌿
Excitement, Connection, and the Tug of Mum Guilt ✈️💖
As I prepare to jump on a plane and head to Western Australia for the first time, I’m filled with excitement about what’s ahead! I can’t wait to catch up with our amazing trainers, Pip and Mikahla, speak at a couple of events, and most of all, meet some of our incredible DediKate members in person. 🎉✨
It’s going to be a whirlwind of connection and inspiration! But alongside all the excitement comes the familiar pang of mum guilt. Leaving my family behind on our farm in the Mackenzie Country isn’t easy, and the thought of being away from my kids always tugs at my heartstrings. 💔 But I know I’m heading out to do something important, spreading the DediKate message and helping more women prioritise their health and fitness, just as I’ve learnt to do. 💪💖
The Guilt of Taking Time for Yourself 😅
Mum guilt is something I’ve wrestled with for years, whether it’s stepping away from family life to focus on work or making time for my own fitness. It’s so easy to feel like we should always be putting others first.
But here’s the truth: taking time for yourself, whether for work, exercise, or just a bit of downtime isn’t selfish. It’s essential for your well-being, and it helps you show up better for the people who depend on you. 💖✨
The Power of Routine and Flexibility 🌸
I’ve discovered over time that keeping a balance between routine and flexibility is key. Life as a busy mum is unpredictable. No two days are the same, but I’ve learnt that a 20-minute workout can make all the difference. 🕒 Whether I’m home with the kids or out and about, those 20 minutes are achievable, effective, and can be done anywhere, anytime. 💥
And honestly, who doesn’t have 20 minutes? ⏳ You don’t need hours at the gym to see results; it’s about making it work for you and your life.
Even when my schedule is packed to the brim, a short burst of exercise gives me the energy boost I need. 💪 It’s a reminder that fitness doesn’t have to take over your life. It’s about fitting it into the life you already have. Whether it’s a quick HIIT session, a walk around the farm, or some gentle stretches, it all adds up! 🏃♀️🙌 I also can recommend adding breathwork & meditation sessions in to your routine!
Exercise as Self-Care 🌿
For me, exercise isn’t just about keeping physically fit—it’s my go-to way to recharge mentally and emotionally. 🌼 After a workout, I feel more present, patient, and ready to tackle whatever the day throws at me. It’s become my time to refuel, and I’ve seen how taking that time for myself has a positive impact on my whole family. 💖
Overcoming Guilt and Leading by Example 🌼
Mum guilt doesn’t disappear overnight, but I’ve found that keeping an eye on the bigger picture helps me manage it. When I take time for myself, I’m not just refuelling. I’m also setting an example for my kids. 👧👦 They see me making time for my health and well-being, and I hope that teaches them the importance of self-care and balance. Fitness isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling strong, confident, and ready for life’s challenges. 💪🌟
As I set off for WA, I remind myself that I’m doing this not just for me, but for them too, spreading a message that encourages other women to look after themselves and prioritise their well-being. It’s not about having to choose between being a good mum and taking care of yourself. It’s about finding a balance that works, even in the busiest of times. 💖✈️
