Introducing our new Mindset and Wellbeing Coach at DediKate, Sarah Dickie!
A bit about Sarah...
“I have been interested in the mind and what it is capable of since I was very young. I can recall lying on the trampoline when I was around 10 watching the clouds gently move questioning who the different voices were chatting to me, I think I innately knew some of them were not helpful voices”.
Born and bred on a high-country station in the Waitaki Valley, Sarah holds a strong belief that we are all capable of more than we think and is passionate about the infinite capacity of growth in all of us.
Sarah's Story
A Mindset + Wellbeing Coach, Sarah works with clients one-on-one from her home in the ‘heart of the desert’ – Bannockburn, Central Otago where she lives with her husband, Scott and three young children; Georgia (7), Olivia (5) and Ardie (3).
Life is busy, full and vibrant for these two where they both work from home (Scott travelling periodically to Asia/Australia with his work) as well running cherry orchards and a local cherry packhouse where they grow Central Otago cherries for export to Asia.
Sarah studied a Bachelor of Physical Education at Otago University and spent the early years of her career in the more prescriptive field of Health and Wellness in both New Zealand and Australia. She has had some incredible opportunities over the years including helping to set up a health and wellness program on a remote Western Australian mine site, where she was one of few women in the middle of the Pilbara desert, doing fly in/fly out. She has worked in corporate health as an Exercise Physiologist in Perth in both public and private sector as well as run exercise classes all over Perth from the back of her little Kia Rio.
Sarah always felt there was something missing from her work back then. Why could some of these people have the biggest motivations for change, the best plans and programs, yet change seemed so difficult? Around the same time as starting to feel these frustrations with what she was seeing, she saw a Coach for the first time to help her address deep lingering feelings/emotions and behaviour that came from a previous eating disorder and everything changed.
Not only did she start properly working on her mindset and the beliefs that were deeply impacting her happiness, she landed a job within the chronic disease management space as a Health Coach where Sarah trained to coach clients using methodology that is the backbone of her work today. Her client results were impressive using a model of behaviour change that is not just about telling people what to do, instead recognising that we actually hold the answers inside us, we just need to clear away the clutter and become empowered and coached towards finding them.
Sarah has continued to grow her expertise and qualifications in the coaching space. She is an ICF accredited Coaching Professional and well as a Certified Health and Wellness Coach and she currently coaches’ clients both face to face and via zoom across all facets of life, not just health.
Sarah is a deeply caring, intuitive and empathetic coach and believes part of her magic comes from her own personal challenges. Sarah suffered from Bulimia in her late teens/early 20’s and spent years after she recovered from the physical battle hiding the shame associated with the disease which was incredibly damaging. She is now a massive advocate for discussing and deconstructing disordered eating in all it’s forms.
Sarah also endured six miscarriages in having her family which led to more body distrust and having to get brave and shine a light on more limiting beliefs again solidifying this idea that whilst we might not be able to control what is inherently uncontrollable (the world and it’s events), we can have control over our response. It’s not always easy. It takes time, it takes getting uncomfortable and asking hard questions, it takes deep curiosity.
Sarah is a DediKate member who loves a good back-to-back Ignite and the ability to do a great workout early from home before the kids wake up. She is super active enjoying mostly multisport, trail running and adventure races these days. A firm believer a strong body helps a long way towards a strong mind, Sarah loves this ethos that runs through Kate Ivey Fitness.
