Get to know Emily!
Are you ready to join us at DediKate on the Pilates and Yoga mat? First, let's get to know Emily...
1. Describe yourself in 3 words...
"Tall, cheerful, nosy."
2. What do you love most about yoga?
"The feeling of being returned to my body. Carving out a sense of physical purpose and calm. Lengthening and strengthening the body! It's a practise that helps to cut through the white noise of the everyday and elicits a nourishing response from the nervous systems that helps with nearly every facet of life: stress, sleep, digestion, pain."
3. What makes you excited to get up in the morning?
"The thought of turning on my coffee machine. And knowing the dogs need letting out or suffer the consequences. I would say I am working on becoming a morning person."
4. What do you love about DediKate?
"I love that it's a platform dedicated to rural mums, a particular niche I am both part of and love. I feel they are often underrepresented but are an incredibly powerful and motivated cohort."
5. What are you most excited to bring to DediKate?
"I think my interests and passion for movement and its therapeutic response, and my own flavour in how to combine that for classes that are deeply functional as well as bloody fun."
6. What does being 'healthy' look like to you?
"Knowing everything is in moderation, including moderation. That rest is as important as movement. To know when to press go and when to say whoa. That intuition and that 'gut' feeling is the key to juicy alignment. When I'm following the 'charm'."
7. What do you believe your purpose in life is?/what do you want to get out of life?
"I don't know what my purpose is, although I'm deeply interested in the concept. I thought perhaps motherhood was when my baby was wee, but I think that was just hormones. He's certainly my passion, but not my purpose. I have so many interests and passions, and I'd like to try them all and find it frustrating that there just ain't enough time in the day. But I love learning and connecting and giving things a shot and getting out in the arena and that's enough for now. I'll find out more about the purpose when I'm a grown up."
8. What is one meal you can't live without?
"I'd say tuna salad. Or my breakfast smoothie. Is coffee considered a meal?"
9. How many children do you have?
"One - 21 month old son."
10. Where are you located in Australia?
"Outside Tamworth in north west NSW."
11. What do you love to do outside of yoga?
"I'm a writer and presenter, so I'm either writing an article, interviewing, podcasting or emceeing. For fun, I ride horses competitively and love being outside."
12. Sun or snow?
"Both. I love a blue bird powder day, but also how about those perfect beach days when it's not too hot, not too cold, there's no wind, you're not sunburned but your skin is warm, your child is being looked after by someone else and you're potentially drinking a crisp white wine..."
