Tips and Tricks for Beginning Exercise
Exercise can seem daunting when you're starting from scratch, we're here to help you begin on your health and fitness journey!
We know how great exercise is for our body and mind!
Sometimes, with all the information out there, starting out can seem impossible! Here we cut through the confusion and give you some points to start with.
Preparing:
-
What kind of exercise is best for you? It is important to think of what kind of exercise you like to do. At DediKate we have many options to best suit your needs! We range between high intensity, low-impact, ignite, sculpt, pilates, yoga and stretching so there is something for everyone.
-
Think about what time works best for you to work out? Based on when you have the time, feel most energetic, and ready to do some movement, make a plan to work out at that time. It’s important to note that you may not always have the motivation or will to workout, this is NORMAL! Be flexible with yourself.
Leading up:
-
Hydrate! It is important to hydrate yourself throughout the day. The average person needs around 2-3 liters of water a day to replace the water your cells use, so drink up!
-
What to wear? It’s so crucial to be in comfortable clothing for your workout. Try to find something that makes movement feel good without constant readjusting. When getting changed, check to see if you are in clothes that help you move easily by doing a few squats or jumping jacks to see how you feel!
-
Warm up! Make sure you warm up before you do an activity. A proper warm-up helps to get the blood flowing and your muscles ready to move. It also helps to prevent injury. At DediKate many of our workouts include warm ups run by all certified trainers.
During:
-
Don't overdo it! Go at your own pace and level! Take breaks when needed.
-
Hydrate! Drink throughout your workout when you feel thirsty. It is important to respond to your body's needs.
-
Think about your form, it’s okay to go slow to insure you are doing the proper movements!
-
Have some fun and celebrate what your body can do!
After:
-
Congrats, you did it! Be proud of what your body is able to do. Take pride that you took the time to take care of your physical health!
-
It is important to stretch after your workout to aid in recovery and to improve/maintain flexibility. DediKate has a large selection of yoga flows, calmé, cool downs, power yoga, meditation and stretching sessions to help you out!
-
Have a snack to replenish and nourish your body. Continue to hydrate!
-
If you’re feeling sore afterwards, this is totally normal! Usually, you can feel sore 1-3 days after exercise. Don't worry, this is the feeling of your body getting stronger!
-
Give yourself a high five because you did great!
Moving forward:
- Keep up the good work and remember the focus is on progress not perfection. Do what is best for you at the pace you need that provides a balanced, healthy and active lifestyle!
