When Should I Increase My Weights?
Up you go, girl!
The more you exercise, the more your body adapts, so if you don't make your workout a little bit harder each time, you'll be unable to grow and you may reach a plateau!
By increasing your weights, you will gradually notice an improvement in performance. It can be difficult to know how much and when to increase your weights, especially if weight training is new for you.
We're here to help you know when to go UP! 🏋️♀️
How heavy should my weights be?
When it comes to weight training, the best weight is going to be the heaviest weight you can do all the reps in a set while maintaining proper form.
It is important that the last few reps challenge you, but you should still feel like you can complete them safely and correctly.
You should increase the weight if you feel like you can easily keep going at the end of your set. So the last 7-8 reps of the set should be quite a challenge.
Consider reducing the weight for that exercise if halfway through you feel the weight is too heavy or your form is compromised. It is CRUCIAL to use the correct technique when working out with weights to prevent injury.
If you use a weight that is too heavy, you put yourself at risk of injury.
Increasing your weights as you get stronger! ⬆️
As you increase your strength from your workouts, you will find the weight you started with feels a little easy. This is a sign to increase your weight. We recommend going up by 1-2kg which follows the principle of 'progressive overload'.
This not only allows you to have a range of weights to choose from at home, but you might go away on holiday or take some time off if you're sick and you can go back to lighter weights if that's what your body needs!
This means that you will continue to feel challenged in your workouts, whilst also progressing your strength and fitness!
Remember, never compare yourself to the trainers, focus on building your own strength.
