Why I Created Strong Mums
Ten Years, Three Kids and a Full Circle Moment: Why I Created Strong Mums
Ten years ago, I made a decision that changed my life. I decided to write a fitness ebook for busy mums, like me.
I hadn't expected to move to the farm and have kids at 25. I was also craving something for me, a career of some sort, something that was mine. I had a plan, I knew I could help other mums, and nothing was going to stop me.
Slowly but surely
That little ebook grew into a community. I launched my website, more women joined, and I juggled business and motherhood as best I could.
Then two years ago, I realised that mentally I wasn't where I wanted to be. I was okay. I just wasn't great. And I had a feeling there was something I could do about it.
So alongside my training, I started working on everything else: my mindset, nutrition, nervous system, financial literacy, spirituality and more. Anything that might help me feel happy and content, and be the best leader and mother I could be.
BeginnerIt worked. Today I'm fitter, stronger, more confident, more content and more connected than I've ever been.
I've always believed we learn the most from challenges, and that the tough times make us who we are. It's through my own struggles that I'm able to help others.
A team of mums who get it
At the same time, I'd been upskilling on the fitness side, including qualifications in peri to post menopause and pregnancy and postpartum training. I also kept growing our team, and today we have ten trainers behind DediKate, all mums, with kids at every age and stage.
I'm a mum of three. Julia Wilkinson, our Head Pregnancy and Postpartum Trainer, is a mum of three. Anna McDermid, our Head Peri to Post Menopause Trainer, has two, and Kath Schirmer, our Trainer and Programme Coordinator, is a mum of five. That's thirteen kids between just the four of us, and plenty more once you count the whole team. We know what it's like to squeeze a workout in around school runs and sick days.
We get it, because we're living it too!
Full circle
Which brings us to right now. From a busy mums ebook ten years ago to Strong Mums today, it really is a full circle moment, and I'm so excited about this one.
Strong Mums is an 8-week strength and fitness programme with ten years of learning and growth wrapped into it. It's our best programme yet.
Every stage of motherhood is considered and catered for, with four planners to choose from:
- Beginner, for mums new to strength training or coming back after a break
- Pregnancy & Postpartum, safe, supportive strength and movement through pregnancy and into early motherhood
- Classic, for mums who already train regularly and want structured progression
- Peri to Post Menopause, training designed for this stage of life
The workouts are short and effective, most around 20 to 25 minutes, and you do them at home. No gym to get to and no childcare to arrange. Alongside the training there's nutrition, mindset, recovery and mobility, because getting stronger in body and mind takes more than just the workout.
Why it matters to me
I know firsthand what mums need and want. And I know how incredible we can feel when we spend just a little bit of time on ourselves, physically and mentally.
BeginnerWe spend so much time looking after everyone else. These eight weeks are for you.
