Different Types of Exercise
With so many workout types available, which one is best for you?
Which type of workout is best for you?
Whether it's Yoga, Pilates, HIIT or Weight Training, there are so many different workouts to choose from. Workout types suit different people better, we're here to help you find yours!
Types of exercise available on DediKate:
Yoga
Yoga is fantastic for increasing balance, flexibility, strength and control. Yoga is suitable for everyone of all fitness levels and is the perfect low impact option. You will feel less tight if you increase your flexibility, decreasing your risk of injury, and improving your performance during other workouts! For example, as a result of less tight hip flexors and quads, you can squat lower.
DediKate provides the option of two Yoga sessions, BeYoga and Yes!Yoga. The BeYoga sessions resemble Yin Yoga, which are slower-paced and hold stretches for longer periods of time. This can help to balance emotions, improve flexibility, boost circulation and develop breath awareness. Yes!Yoga mimics Vinyasa, a style of movement synchronized with breath, in which you move through quick and smooth flows!
Pilates
Pilates is another great workout for increasing muscle strength and tone (in particular your 'core' muscles), balance, flexibility, and control. Pilates is a great low impact option suitable for everyone.
Incorporating Pilates into your workout routine will strengthen muscles you never knew existed. Your 'core' consists of the abdominal muscles, lower back, hip and buttocks. By increasing your core strength, you will decrease your chance of getting injured, and you'll sweat just as much as any HIIT training!
HIIT
HIIT is an abbreviation for High Intensity Interval Training. HIIT training involves working at a high intensity for a short period of time followed by a quick break before repeating. The advantages of HIIT workouts are that they use body weight exercises, which is great for those who are short on time (aren't we all?) as well as those who want to get their workouts done as quickly as possible.
Similar to weight training, fat continues to burn long after your workout is done and your cardio fitness and agility will quickly improve. HIIT training style workouts are available on DediKate and are known as Power Session, Ignite, Resist-Ded, Boot Camp Blast, BOXhiit, Speed Sessions and 5 Min Abs.
Weight Training
Also known as strength or resistance training. Weight training is great for building lean muscle, improving bone density (important as we age), weight management, improving your metabolism and all round strength! Another benefit is that it is low impact, and suitable for most abilities. The weight training workouts available on DediKate are Sculpt, Ignite, Introductory Sculpt and BOXlift!
Cardio
Cardio is a type of workout in which your heart rate is raised but kept steady rather than spiking up and down as in HIIT. For example, exercise such as jogging, walking, swimming and cycling.
DediKate offers Cardio workouts such as Speed Sessions and Steady State Cardio. Increasing your cardio fitness is a great excuse to get outside amongst nature and catch up with friends through a walk or run! You may even opt for a coffee afterwards!
Pregnant and Postpartum
DediKate offers workouts that are designed to cater to pregnant and postpartum women with clearance! In addition to keeping healthy and active while pregnant, new mothers need to repair their pelvic floor postpartum. As many women experience leakage, it should not be something to be ashamed of! The DediKate Pregnancy and Postpartum workouts take this into account and provide tips on how to strengthen the body after giving birth.
DediKate offers Introductory Sculpt, Introductory Pilates, Pregnancy Power Session, Low Impact and Core Connect.
So what type of workout is best for me?
There are 3 main factors to think about when deciding which type of exercise will best suit you:
- Do you have any limitations? For example: Injuries, health conditions, pregnant or postpartum.
- Your preference – What do YOU enjoy doing? What workouts make you feel the best?
- What are your goals? – Do you want to increase strength? Are you training for a running event? Do you want to increase overall fitness? Do you want to lose weight?
The best type of workout is the one you do! Exercise should simply be apart of living a healthy and balanced lifestyle, not a chore. If you choose to exercise in ways that you enjoy, you are more likely to stay committed!
Remember, everyone is different and our preferences constantly change. Just because one style works well for you now, doesn’t mean you have to stick to it for the rest of your life! Remain flexible and regularly reflect on your goals and preferences to keep your workouts enjoyable and challenging! Changing up your workout types is a great way to challenge your muscles in new ways and shock your body!
