Meet Phillipa, Our New Pilates Instructor at DediKate!
We ask Phillipa 11 fun questions!
Get to know Phillipa!
Are you ready to join us at DediKate and try Phillipa's super spicy Pilates sessions!? 🔥 (They're sure to make you BURN!) First, let's get to know Phillipa!
1. Where do you live?
"I live on a property on the border of NSW and QLD, near a small town called Yetman. My closest 'big' town is Goondiwindi, QLD. I live on one of my partner's family properties with him and our 2 dogs, Ziggy and Flossy."
2. How do you like to spend your free time?
"Going for walks and coffee catch ups with friends or down at the river swimming and fishing with the dogs. We live right near a big river, so most weekends you can find me doing my best to catch more fish than my other half."
3. Where have you travelled and where would you like to go?
"I am about as un-travelled as you can get. I don't own a passport and consequently have never ventured overseas! I didn't even leave QLD until I was about 14 years old. I have no bucket-list destinations as I am not cultured enough to even know where is good and where isn't. I'll take a trip anywhere!"
4. What is your favourite food?
"I LOOOOVE a good pasta, but my ultimate go-to and nostalgic favourite is steak, veggies and potatoes."
5. What did you do before you were a Sculpt Pilates teacher and DediKate trainer?
"I was studying Animal Science, looking to be an Equine Nutritionist. Whilst studying I was working as a Jillaroo on a Santa Gertrudis Cattle Stud. Pilates and fitness was just something I would kick-start or end my day with in between days in the cattle yards or mustering."
6. What is your biggest pet peeve?
"I can't really think of one major pet peeve, but I think probably people walking too slow. Don't get my wrong, I love a good cruisey stroll but if I'm on a mission, which I normally am - respectively, get out of my my way or walk faster hahaha!"
7. Did you play any sports growing up?
"I was a hugely sporty kid growing up and loved trying anything that our small rural school had access to. My two main sports would be netball and touch football. As I grew up and went to college, I also really enjoyed playing rugby."
8. What is something you've always wanted to do but haven't tried yet?
"Travel. I want to get a passport and travel literally anywhere that my bank account will allow me to go!"
9. What is your favourite thing about your job?
"Inspiring rural women to move their bodies, not just to look good and get strong, but to FEEL good. One of the most fulfilling things is seeing clients faces after they have done a pilates session with me - they look like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders. That is the 20 minutes or 1hr a day where they get to do something for themselves. Plus, seeing them feel capable and strong is so amazing."
10. What are the biggest challenges to living rurally (if any)?
"There are soooo many challenges to living rurally. One of hardest things is most definitely accessibility. We can't just pop down the road and jump in on a pilates class. We have to load the car for the day, pack spare bags in case you have to stay in town due to a power outage, a flat tyre, or car damage. Most of us have to plan a day trip into town and make sure we complete jobs A, B and C to make the trip worth it. Nothing is easy in the bush. You have so many factors and other stressors on your wellbeing, whether it be looking after the kids, worrying about the yearly harvest, worrying about drought, worrying about flooding, the list goes on. Rural women are so adaptable and strong it continues to amaze me how incredibly independent so many of my clients are. However, there is absolutely nowhere I would rather live."
11. Sun or snow?
"Sun 1000000%. I am bush girl brought up in 45 degree heat and am nowhere near able to handle the snow quite like the kiwis!"
