Kate's Story!
With a few new faces here at Kate Ivey Fitness, let us reintroduce Kate!
There's more to Kate Ivey than just fitness.
It was the struggles that Kate faced during her earlier years in life that led to the creation of DediKate and Kate Ivey Fitness, now both successful online fitness websites.
About Kate
I live on a farm near Twizel and Aoraki Mount Cook in the South Island of NZ, with my husband and three children – 12, 10 and 7 years. Life is hectic, but I love it that way!
Throughout changes in my life such as starting university, travelling and of course having children, I struggled to prioritise my health and fitness. This lead to feelings of dissatisfaction, weight gain and low self-confidence. Being a farmer's wife and a Mum, I know first hand how hard it can be. However, exercise saved me! I rediscovered my self identity, felt good about myself again and gained confidence through short, 20-30 minute workouts at home.
However, Kate wanted more...
I always wanted my own business or career. Having a young family and living so far from town made it difficult. My youngest was 18 months and I was getting itchy feet and wanting to sink my teeth into something! When my husband suggested an ice cream truck, I was shocked and realised I needed to do something that I was passionate about!
I have a Bachelor of Physical Education majoring in Exercise Prescription and a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology, and I had about 10 years experience in the health and fitness industry at the time. So it became obvious. Due to my qualifications and experience, as well as the lessons I learned through my own struggles, I realised I could also help others! This included Mum’s and those who struggle with time and location to get to the gym.
Kate Ivey Fitness was born!
So that was how Kate Ivey Fitness and DediKate was born! It started out as a printable PDF, and for the first 4 years it was just me. Kate Ivey Fitness turns 6 this year and DediKate 5! We are currently a team of 8 trainers from both Australia and New Zealand, a Nutritionist and 2 awesome marketing and exercise gurus behind the scenes.
I feel so lucky to be able to do what I do, but I still have plenty of my own challenges that come with everyday life, living on a farm, running a business and raising a family. So I share these to help you to feel normal, and to inspire you to be consistent with your exercise to feel great.
